Stand Up For Seaton (SU4S)

Community Action for Seaton's Regeneration Area, 80% owned by Tesco - a floodplain on a World Heritage site bordered by nature reserves, tidal river, the sea and the unspoilt town. SU4S is a state of mind - no members, no structure, no politics. SU4S has objected to 2 planning applications by Tesco, including one for a massive superstore/dot com distribution centre which led to the recent closure on the site of 400 tourist beds with the loss of 150 jobs,a gym and pool - all used by locals.

Magna Housing and Sainsbury's talking together about building leisure facilities?

According to the View from Seaton today Magna Housing say they are in talks with Sainsburys about providing leisure and community facilities across the road from their projected new housing development on Harepath Road.

This seems surprising as Sainsburys never mentioned this at their exhibition and yet Magna say they have been talking to the district council for two years about their proposed housing site and the proposed industrial and recreational land on the other side of the road. Surely Sainsburys would have mentioned this - it might have got them 100% backing from everyone in Seaton if it is correct!

Perhaps Magna or Sainsburys could enlighten us, as you can bet your bottom dollar EDDC won't!

about time this blog covered more than just the supermarket proposals. Where is the information about the RACAL site? If you Stand Up For Seaton you need to cover all of them

May be just more lies as there seems to be lots around! Seaton is going to die with all this news about Sainsbury's and Tesco already seen two shops close in the town and now Seaton Electronics seems to have closed down ! and I know of at least another four shops for sale in the town there all getting out before the big boys come to town and I don't blame them..Wish I could do the same! Once the camp closes in 6 weeks the place will be like a ghost town! Woolworths next ????

If we get these facilities in my lifetime - I am 47 - I will eat my hat. None of these people gives a toss about Seaton and there is no chance that the district council will pull their finger out for the town either.

I agree with the comments about Seaton becoming a Ghost Town, I too have seen that Seaton Electronics has gone out of business (Shame) and also know that there are at least 5 shops and two cafe's for sale in the town. Rats deserting a sinking ship springs to mind!

In a recession and with more people shopping on the internet there will be shop closures. Those that survive will be shops that offer what people want. In fact shops in Seaton should have a better chance of survival than those elsewhere because the older population do less internet shopping, value personal service and don't want to have to traipse off to Exeter to shop. Younger people have no choice - you can't buy suitable clothing in Seaton.

Seaton's shops mostly close on Saturday - madness. If shops want to survive they need to adapt to a changing world.

So, Magna housing build 148 'Affordable Homes' on Harepath Rd and a further 36 are built in the Axe riverside development and a further 200 on the Harbour Rd site, (ie: 40% of 500 dwellings proposed), I make that a total of 384 'Affordable Homes'.
Are there really so many local families to occupy so many properties or are these being built to accommodate people who don't currently live in the Seaton area ? If people are going to be moved in to Seaton...Where are they going to work ? Or will they be travelling miles to reach their place of employment?
Is this really going to Kick-Start the regeneration of Seaton ?
