Stand Up For Seaton (SU4S)

Community Action for Seaton's Regeneration Area, 80% owned by Tesco - a floodplain on a World Heritage site bordered by nature reserves, tidal river, the sea and the unspoilt town. SU4S is a state of mind - no members, no structure, no politics. SU4S has objected to 2 planning applications by Tesco, including one for a massive superstore/dot com distribution centre which led to the recent closure on the site of 400 tourist beds with the loss of 150 jobs,a gym and pool - all used by locals.

A declining tourism industry?

In the Western Morning News this weekend - plans for a multi-million pound
holiday village with 250 bed spaces and a leisure complex with an indoor
swimming pool and gym. Amazingly this in in Devon -where we are told holiday
villages no longer have a market. The scheme is being put forward by Trevor
Standby, described as one of the leading lights of the tourism industry in
the region. The article goes on " Guidance given to the Standbury family by
South West Tourism, the North Devon Marketing Bureau and a leading holiday
cottage firm has indicated a lack of provision at the top end of the
self-catering holiday market. "

Perhaps Mr Stanbury would like to extend his business to East Devon!

The thing is, we all know that the holiday village in Seaton is doing well, it's just that some people want the land for other uses......like building homes that no one in the area could afford to buy.

Bit like Weymouth football club really .

Doing fine until Mr Harryson arrived.

I would think twice before in investing in anything Mr Harryson buys! Unless, of course, you want to sell to developers.

But seriously folks if we could get another developer to show even a vague interest, especially if that developer was involved in tourism then it could certainly help our cause. Anyone know how to contact Mr. Standy? And he must have relevant research and contacts even if he's not interested....
