Stand Up For Seaton (SU4S)

Community Action for Seaton's Regeneration Area, 80% owned by Tesco - a floodplain on a World Heritage site bordered by nature reserves, tidal river, the sea and the unspoilt town. SU4S is a state of mind - no members, no structure, no politics. SU4S has objected to 2 planning applications by Tesco, including one for a massive superstore/dot com distribution centre which led to the recent closure on the site of 400 tourist beds with the loss of 150 jobs,a gym and pool - all used by locals.

Meeting with Hugo Swire MP Friday 1 December 2006

This evening a group of four people from Stand Up For Seaton, along with a member of Seaton Town Council whom we had invited to attend with us, met with Hugo Swire, MP. We were limited to this small number by the size of the room available at The Knowle.

A useful exchange of views took place and Mr Swire has promised to respond to our concerns - all of which are covered in this blog.

As soon as we have received Mr Swire's response to the information we gave him we will post a more detailed account of the meeting.

perhaps when there is a meeting in the Town Hall Mr Swire might like to come and see the papers for himself and hear in more detail why his constituents are unhappy? Has anyone invited him along?

And as there has been so much "misinformation" around can we be sure our MP is basing his view of the development on accurate information? Just what does he base his view on?

well this is an open blog, we know Hugo is an occasional reader, he could take that as an invite;-)

Misinformation, hmm, still no-one has come forward to tell us where it's come from, just vague generalisations....oh where have I heard that before?

It isn't clear where Mr Swire got his information - although he's mentioned Mr Hassan in his letter. Whoever it was either wasn't at one of the two public meetings held in Seaton to discuss the proposed application or deliberately withheld the information since Mr Swire didn't seem to be aware of them. If his informant(s) weren't at either of the meetings they should still have known of them from the View from Seaton. So has someone been deliberately misleading our MP about the strength of feeling in Seaton? And why don't his constituency office keep him better informed - they should take all the local papers?

in view of the doantion from the Victuallers and the comments from the Seaton business Forum in today's Midweek Herald do you think Mr Swire yet realises how much anger there is over the developer's proposals in Seaton? It isn't that residents object to development - just to THIS proposal, which gives nothing to the Town. But in order to stop this stupidity residents may be forced to put forward arguments that would block other, more sensible, proposals.
