Stand Up For Seaton (SU4S)

Community Action for Seaton's Regeneration Area, 80% owned by Tesco - a floodplain on a World Heritage site bordered by nature reserves, tidal river, the sea and the unspoilt town. SU4S is a state of mind - no members, no structure, no politics. SU4S has objected to 2 planning applications by Tesco, including one for a massive superstore/dot com distribution centre which led to the recent closure on the site of 400 tourist beds with the loss of 150 jobs,a gym and pool - all used by locals.

The Liatris Spin Machine Goes into "Fast Cycle"

By now most of you will have seen the wrapper around today's View from.
There are many facets to this which we'll be looking at over the next couple of days.
One of the more immediate curiosities about it is the conflation between the "view from" banner, Liatris and EDDC...the text and content could lead a casual observer to the conclusion that this is a Liatris/EDDC co-production...this is commonly called "spin"

More later, meanwhile, your observations are welcome as always.

Ooo, I've not seen this yet...can you tell us more of what it is? I will get a copy this week, at some point.

Just went and got my copy.

Wow, we really have them running scared don't we? They must be really worried if they've taken the drastic measure of a 4 page suppliment.

Begging for locals to write to the council to say that they approve of the plans.....that is desperate!

It's tricky to decide what my favourite quote is, but perhaps this quote sums up their lies:

"We have listened to what Seatonians wanted and have incorporated this feedback into the final plans"

Er, no you haven't. If you had, there would be no supermarket, no retail unit, a much much bigger Sustrans terminus and a Jurassic Coast Visitor centre that is 75% bigger than the one you have in the plan - oh and no houses on a flood plains.

Seems Goliath is running scared!

By the way - yes I did love reading the suppliment - I haven't laughed so much for weeks!

Personally, I thought the landtrain had them by the b*lls if they do nothing else to the site the landtrain will do more for bringing paying tourists in than the supermarket, jurassic centre combined.

The 300 jobs would be at the expense of the existing town centre and the loss of community facilities in no way concerns Mr Dinham [who incidentally from my meetings with him is an 'arrogant prig']... as for the cycle track/storm drain - who's a clever boy then, and this is going to do precisely what??. The Sustrans is going to be how big a tourist pull? and just how many cycle shops does Seaton have?

Laslty, how is losing Lyme Bay and 4 day visitors going to be compensated by 4 hour visitors who come/go by car and coach and generally are legless in terms of willpower to venture further into town!!

I have also met Mr Dinham and can say that he is an absolute charmer. Well, OK, his people skills aren't all that good. OK, OK - it's true he was the one who, when I asked him in a meeting how we were supposed to spend our leisure time if we had no leisure centre, said that "shopping IS leisure"! But I'm sure he is nice to some people, some time - Liatris, for example, I'm sure he's really nice to them.

And I'm sure Mrs Dinham (or significant other Terry, see, I have feelings too) will be in rapture to know that shopping IS leisure...perhaps they have it delivered by Tesco direct...superstores, that's for common people;0)
