Seaton Carnival President resigns over Tesco sponsorship
For those of you who do not get the Midweek Herald delivered to your door, Seaton Carnival President, Barbara Dearden-Potter, says this week that she has resigned her post as she disagrees with the Carnival Committee accepting £1,000 in sponsorship from Tesco "at this sensitive time for the town". See article here.
It would appear that she had been unaware of the deal until details appeared in the press last week.

How good to see some people have integrity in this time of money rules all. Well done to Barbara and shame on the committee who must know how sensitive the issue of Tesco is in Seaton at the moment. And to be bought so cheaply too.
I see no problem about a supermarket supporting town charities AFTER a planning application has been decided - in fact I think we should welcome that.
I do have problems with any supermarket that is crass enough to think that a £1000 donation can buy support.
What is cheering is that (so far) the carnival is the only charity to have accepted any money - I think that says a lot about the common sense in this town (unless of course Tesco is doing round with lots more money for the others who haven't understood the pitfalls).
Tesco's have shot themselves in the foot (again). No-one, absolutely no-one believes that this was a pure act of altruism on their part. Peter Burrows in particular must know that he has compromised himself in the sight of the town.
I think BDP showed an incredible personal strength and belief in this action.
She is correct that this is a sensitive issue, dare I say it, but even SU4S have shown an open approach, despite the high handed antics of certain people and companies here and behind the scenes.
I applaud her professionalism and stature.
