Guess who I saw at the EDDC offices at The Knowle today
Went down to the EDDC offices at The Knowle to check up on the latest correspondence on the Liatris bid (just sorting it out - any interesting info online soon).
Sitting at one of the desks with a large set of box files looking very grumpy was one of the Liatris/Terry Dinham henchmen - one of the youngsters who didn't have any answers to our questions when they did their famous exhibition last year - you know, the one that later on (just like the Wetlands exhibition last week) later got called "public consultation".
Seems he has the unpleasant job of summarising the 800-900 objection letters for his lords and masters. Still, the 8 letters of support won't take him too long to summarise - especially as at least two of them are in the wrong box!

Ooh did he say "hello" or was he as uncommunicative as his owner, sorry, employer?
He was having such a great day already, and I bet he was thinking "Could be worse - that Semple woman could be here too"
grin
No - he was VERY grumpy and at one point we were sharing the information (the only time that will happen, for sure!).
Oh dear, do you think it was ME that made him grumpy? I do hope so!
probably afraid that if he said anything to you it would be taken down in evidence and used against him. You could have said "save yoursef a job, lad, just read my blog."
Do you think he'll be there the rest of the week :-)
Two or three weeks, perhaps. Probably get his own desk in the planning office eventually and perhaps even a couple of people to help him ....
Funny that Mr Dinham can find time to send a minion down to EDDC but can't answer a civil letter from us, the Town Council and Seaton Development Trust about getting together.
Surely the very significant feature here is that it has taken Liatris nearly 2 months from the end of the objection period to start analysing the objections. I would have expected this to be done immediately to enable Liatris to set their various agents to work either rebutting the objections, or seeing what could be done cheaply and easily to satisfy them. That this was not done is puzzling. It looks as though Liatris is merely going through the motions either because it feels confident that it does not need to consider the public objections because of EDDC assurances, or it feels this is one it cannot win and its agents are busy putting together a revised application.
I wonder if they're going to do a rebuttal now that "most" of the responses will have been received.
Or, they're aware of a timescale that the public/residents are not privy to.
I can add another motive to explain Liatris's tardiness in assessing the objections. They know that it is difficult for protesters to sustain a long campaign. They may be aiming to go to committee next year, not this, and so time is not vital to them.
Victory goes not necessarily to the strongest, or the righteous, it goes to the last one still fighting. We must be prepared for a long campaign
I think I can speak for many in the Stand Up For Seaton campaign when I say I am in this for the long haul.
I can keep going as long as Liatris can, that's for sure, because I have passion about it, and that is a great energiser.
Plus, I'm here in Seaton until they take me out in a box - Liatris are in it for a fast buck and want out as fast as their feet can carry them.
We just have to see which comes first!
Yep, you can speak for me, I don't disagree with the scenario Janus, there's a lot of potential profit in that development proposal, I doubt they'll walk away overnight.
Especially when you consider they've sat on derelict land next door to the holiday village, and have spent years talking with reps from eddc.
Perhaps they should've spent more time talking with (not to or at) the people of Seaton...especially before they bought the land.
